WHAT IS KUALA SEPETANG
In Malaysia's northwest Perak province, in the Larut, Matang, and Selama District, is the beach town of Kuala Sepetang. Port Weld, named after a past governor named Frederick Weld, is also a common name for it. It is a thriving fishing settlement and the major entry point to Kuala Sangga, a Chinese fishing community near the river's mouth that specialises in fish farming in cages, more commonly known as culture.
RAILWAY STATION
The first railway line ever constructed at what is now Malaysia's Port Weld is famous for serving as its terminus station. In the heart of Port Weld, there was a railroad station. Only the ticket counter and the bilingual Port Weld railway signboard remain today after the whole railway route from here to Taiping was demolished in the 1980s. A Chinese coffee shop has replaced the ticket counter, and the proprietor has been caring for the railway signboard.
FOOD
Due to its proximity to the Straits of Malacca, Kuala Sepetang is widely known for its seafood, and also boasts a restaurant on the top floor of a shopping complex with a view of the river. The Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, a mangrove swamp reserve park open to the public every day, is another well-known attraction in Kuala Sepetang. Tourists can now access the marsh via a boardwalk, and there are also chalets they can rent to spend the night on the riverfront. Additionally, Kuala Sepetang is well-known for producing charcoal using traditional kilns and sustainably farmed mangroves, some of which are open to visitors. One can take a boat excursion along the mangrove river to observe eagles and fireflies at night in addition to fishing towns, charcoal kilns, and mangroves to enjoy.
The hamlet is also known for its Pau and Curry Mee, which are only offered in the afternoon. Prawn noodles, often referred to as Mee Udang Banjir and offered by numerous Malay booths, are another popular dish in Kuala Sepetang.
